Overview
History Maker is a video recording application that automatically backs up recordings to your personal Google Drive. This privacy policy explains how the app handles your information.
The most important thing to know: History Maker does not collect, store, or have access to your data. Your recordings and information are stored only on your device and in your personal Google Drive account, which you control.
Information the App Accesses
Camera and Microphone
- What: The app records video and audio when you initiate a recording session.
- Why: This is the core function of the app.
- Where it goes: Recordings are saved to your device and uploaded to your personal Google Drive. They are never sent to our servers.
Location (Optional)
- What: GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude) when available.
- Why: To add location metadata to your recordings, if you choose to enable this feature.
- Where it goes: Location data is embedded in your recording logs, which are stored in your Google Drive. Location is never sent to our servers.
- Your control: You can disable location tagging in the app settings at any time.
Google Account
- What: Your Google account email address and authentication tokens.
- Why: To enable the app to upload recordings to your Google Drive.
- Where it goes: Your email is stored locally on your device. Authentication tokens are stored in secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore). Your Google credentials are never sent to our servers.
Device Identifier
- What: A unique identifier for your device installation.
- Why: To associate recordings with the device that created them.
- How it's created: The identifier is a cryptographic hash derived from your platform, a random installation ID, and your Google account email. The original values cannot be recovered from the hash.
- Where it goes: Stored in your recording logs in your Google Drive. Never sent to our servers.
Information We Do NOT Collect
History Maker has no backend servers and does not collect any user data. Specifically, we do not collect, store, or have access to:
- Your recordings or videos
- Your location history
- Your Google account credentials or tokens
- Your Google Drive contents
- Analytics or usage data
- Advertising identifiers
- Device hardware identifiers
- Any personally identifiable information
Data Storage and Security
On Your Device
- Recordings are temporarily stored on your device before upload
- Authentication tokens are stored in platform-secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore)
- Local database stores upload queue and session metadata
- All local data is protected by your device's security (passcode, biometrics)
In Your Google Drive
- Recordings are uploaded to a "HistoryMaker" folder in your Google Drive
- You control sharing settings for this folder
- Data retention is controlled by you through Google Drive
- We have no access to your Google Drive
In Transit
- All communication with Google services uses TLS encryption
- No data is transmitted to any servers we operate
Data Sharing
With Google
The app communicates directly with Google services to:
- Authenticate your Google account (Google Sign-In)
- Upload files to your Google Drive (Google Drive API)
This communication is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
With Third Parties
We do not share any data with third parties because we do not have access to your data.
By Your Choice
You may choose to share your recordings by:
- Enabling public sharing on your Google Drive folder
- Sharing the folder link with others
This sharing is controlled entirely by you through Google Drive's sharing settings.
Your Rights and Controls
Access and Deletion
- Your recordings are in your Google Drive—you have full access
- Delete recordings anytime through Google Drive or the app
- Uninstalling the app removes all local data and revokes Google Drive access
Permissions
You can revoke the app's permissions at any time:
- Camera/Microphone: Through your device's Settings
- Location: Through your device's Settings or the app's settings
- Google Drive: Through your Google Account permissions
Data Portability
Your recordings are standard MP4 files in your Google Drive. You can download, move, or copy them at any time.
Children's Privacy
History Maker is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Since we do not collect any user data, we do not have any children's data.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
